God’s Workings in Christian’s lives

I Peter 5:8 ¶ Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour:

9  Whom resist stedfast in the faith, knowing that the same afflictions are accomplished in your brethren that are in the world.

Introduction: God is, He is not God that was, nor is He God that started things and left them to function arbitrarily on. God is the ever existing one. Isaiah 49:9 Remember the former things of old: for I am God, and there is none else; I am God, and there is none like me,

10 Declaring the end from the beginning, and from ancient times the things that are not yet done, saying, My counsel shall stand, and I will do all my pleasure:

I want to focus on the phrase “I will do all my pleasure:” God has things planned for humanity as well as His creation. He has revealed many of these things.  For example:

Salvation: God is not willing that any should perish. II Peter 3:9

God would have all men to be saved, and to come unto the

knowledge of the truth. I Timothy 2:4

Since God is the ever existing one, He is working all things according to His pleasure.  Psalm 33:11 states The counsel of the LORD standeth for ever, the thoughts of his heart to all generations.

God has a plan for this generation, and He has a plan for your life.

You who are in Christ, God has clearly revealed this truth.  He is presently working in your life. Philippians 2:13 For it is God which worketh in you both to will and to do of his good pleasure.

Notice: God is working in you.

When you view your life, you have many varying thoughts. Proverbs 19:21 There are many devices in a man's heart; nevertheless the counsel of the LORD, that shall stand.

What is going to stand in your life is God’s counsel

I. What God has purposed in your life is going to be worked out.

Isaiah 46:10 Declaring the end from the beginning, and from ancient times the things that are not yet done, saying, My counsel shall stand, and I will do all my pleasure:

II. Your life is important and your involvement in His church is in actuality, God’s working in and through your life.

Ephesians 1:11 In whom also we have obtained an inheritance, being predestinated according to the purpose of him who worketh all things after the counsel of his own will:

III. Since God is working in your life, Things which happen to you (that is if you are in God’s will) happen so God can accomplish a purpose of which you need.

I Peter 5:8 ¶Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour:

9 Whom resist stedfast in the faith, knowing that the same afflictions are accomplished in your brethren that are in the world

Accomplished: An action excecuted for your good.  Regardless of Satan’s attacking, your afflictions are being allowed so God’s Spiritual perfection of your life comes about.

The analogy would be likened unto fruit being exposed to the heat of the sun.  The heat and rays of the sun actually cause the fruit to ripen.

Conclusion: The Christian life is a life of trials, hardships and

calamity,  There are also mishaps, affliction of the mind, as well as

emotional distress,  Yet God is still God. He still loves you.

You should be encouraged to endure your trials by the fact that your fellow-

Christians suffer the same things. I Peter 5:9... the same afflictions afflictions are accomplished in your brethren that are in the world

Finally remember God’s promise of Romans 8:28. Give God the benefit of

the doubt.  This is what Isaiah did.

Isaiah 25:1 O LORD, thou art my God; I will exalt thee, I will praise thy name; for thou hast done wonderful things; thy counsels of old are faithfulness and truth.
